| Both my user name and the title of my journal are inspired by the novel, The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson (my current favourite author). I am a thirty something female of the species who has spent most of her life in various forms of education until, about six years ago, when I became afflicted with a stubborn bout of major depression. Since then, I have spent a lot of time in and out (but mostly in) treatment and have returned to writing (a passion of my youth). I had my first short story published this year (2008). As of 2008 my depression is in remission. I'm off my medication, and employed part time at a local history museum (when I am in the U.S.) I haven't found employment in NZ yet, am still thinking of returning to study. My academic background is fairly diverse: English literature (with concentration on medieval lit.), linguistics, with a smattering of classics the first time through, and then computer science (my focus was AI) and mathematics with a garnish of psychology. Poltically speaking, I consider myself a progressive, though I am registered as a Democrat in the States. In New Zealand, I tend to support the Green party. I have dual citizenship and spend time in both countries. |
